FAQ - Social Selling

PURPOSE OF CHALK CENTRAL SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE

Chalk Couture maintains official Company Social Media pages, groups, and properties for the purposes of advertising, marketing, and brand recognition. Designers may not place linking information on any of Chalk Couture’s Social Media platforms, nor may they post any pricing, promotions, marketing material, sales, advertisements, or announcements relating to their Designership on any of the Company’s Social Media pages.

In official Company Social groups (including, but not limited to, Design Studio, Designer HQ, Emerging Leaders, and Couturier+), Designers may not solicit Perks Members or other potential Designers, nor should they post specific or potentially sensitive information about their own, or other Designers’, commissions, Team activity, potential policy violations, or content which is not relevant to the members of the entire group. Specific questions or concerns should always be directed to the appropriate person or department via email or call to Chalk Couture Designer Services.

GENERAL ADVERTISING & BRANDING

Designer-created advertising must represent the Chalk Couture Designership Opportunity and Products in a clear and truthful manner, without infringement on any other person, Business Entities, or owned content.

All advertising must clearly state “Chalk Couture Independent Designer” so as not to suggest the ad, offer, promotion, or asset is produced or supported by the Company. Chalk Couture Independent Designers should always use the Independent Designer logo available in the Resources Library.

For social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. posts with video or images that use the name, image, look-and-feel, etc., of Chalk Couture and/or any Chalk Couture product, included links should either be a CartLink, or direct customers to the Designer’s Chalk Site.

Prior to using another Designer’s personal videos, images, or assets (e.g., advertisements for sales or photos of projects), ensure the Designer has granted permission to share. When sharing these assets, Designers may attribute to the creating Designer but should not link to their pages in any way. For example you may say “Image Created by Cora Couturier” (no link).

GENERAL SALES OF CHALK COUTURE PRODUCTS ONLINE

Designers may not sell Chalk Couture Products on any online retail store or ecommerce site with the exception of their Chalk Site, in closed customer groups, and the following approved digital applications: TikTok Shop, Whatnot. (See specific regulations for sales on approved applications below.)

Except for approved applications, Designers may not use online classifieds or auctions (including Amazon marketplace, Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, eBay, or any other platform similar to those listed) to list Chalk Couture products for sale. This includes bundles, current, and retired products.

Designers should not operate or participate in “Buy, Sell, Trade” boards, groups, or forums, whether public or private, for Chalk Couture products as these tend to focus on premium pricing or De-Stashing after Bonus Buying or in an attempt to offload products.

SALES OF FINISHED GOODS

Designers are encouraged to sell projects created with non-licensed Chalk Couture Products online, in both public and private settings. Designers may determine and publicly post the pricing for Finished Goods on External Websites and Social Media as outlined by Chalk Couture’s official Angel Policy.  Designers accept all responsibility for the correct calculation and remitting of sales tax on the sale of the Finished Good(s). Finished Goods should not be marketed or promoted under the Chalk Couture brand.

COMMUNICATIONS & PROFESSIONALISM

When posting on social media, Designers should ensure that they are professional, respectful, and represent Chalk Couture in a favorable light. They should also respect the privacy of others online, as well as in all communications and offline interactions. Designers must act in a way that builds, strengthens, and enhances Chalk Couture’s brand reputation.

When posting, Designers should not include references to inappropriate images, words, or ideas. Inappropriate materials may be described as follows:

  • Sexually explicit, obscene, or pornographic;
  • Offensive, profane, hateful, threatening, harmful, defamatory, libelous, harassing, or discriminatory (whether based on race, ethnicity, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or otherwise);
  • Graphically violent, including any violent video game images; or
  • Solicitous of any unlawful behavior.

Designers must follow the federal CAN-SPAM Act and/or the Canada Anti-Spam Law (CASL) for any unsolicited commercial email sent by a Designer that promotes Chalk Couture, the Chalk Couture opportunity, or Chalk Couture’s products.

SALES OF CHALK COUTURE PRODUCTS ON TIKTOK*

TikTok is a video-based social media platform that helps creators reach large audiences through short, engaging content. Chalk Couture has an official TikTok Shop for Designers to reference while showcasing Chalk Couture products during live streams and posts on TikTok.

Things to note:

  • Chalk Couture Designers must be approved as an affiliate to sell through the official Chalk Couture TikTok Shop. If you are interested in having an affiliate link for the official Shop, please ensure you are approved as a TikTok Affiliate, then fill out the form here. Once approved, you will receive a personalized link that you will use for all Chalk Couture products sold through TikTok.
  • At this time, Designers are not allowed to have their own Chalk Couture-focused TikTok Shops.
  • A 25% commission will be paid to Designers via TikTok. Commissions are calculated after refunds, and are typically paid 15 days after the order delivery date. (Learn more about the TikTok Affiliate Program here.)
  • TikTok Shop orders are managed by TikTok and fulfilled by Chalk Couture.
  • The official Chalk Couture Shop on TikTok offers a limited number of products. This supports organic growth on the platform as the majority of creators are working with similar products at any given time.
  • Customers buying through TikTok receive marketing messaging in each order with details about shopping chalkcouture.com for access to the entire product offering.

ADDITIONAL TIKTOK FAQS

What are the requirements to become an official affiliate for Chalk Couture’s TikTok Shop?

The Affiliate requirements are determined by TikTok, and therefore are subject to change, but in the U.S., you will generally need to:

  • Be 18 or older
  • Live in the United States
  • Have at least 1,000 TikTok followers
  • Pass TikTok's account risk and identity verification
  • Have an account that follows TikTok's Community Guidelines

Once confirmed as a TikTok Creator, Designers can apply for an affiliate link for Chalk Couture’s official Shop HERE. There are no additional qualifications at this time.

How do I become an official affiliate for TikTok?

  • Go to your Profile, tap the three lines in the top right, and open Creator Tools.
  • Select the TikTok Shop for Creator option
  • Scroll down to TikTok Shop toolkit and scroll to the right, click on Collab Invites
  • When the Invite section opens up, choose View by Invite
  • You will see your Chalk Couture invite there

Do TikTok Shop sales generate Personal Volume (PV/CV)?

Yes. Monthly PV from your TikTok sales are added to Designer accounts on or by the 15th of the month following the month a sale was generated in. Though commissions are not paid via the Chalk Couture Compensation Plan, awarding PV allows Designers to get credit for the sales for the purposes of Savvy Seller qualifications, Title qualifications, etc

Can Designers earn both Chalk Couture Deferred Commissions and TikTok Affiliate Commissions?

No. As an approved Chalk Couture Designer Affiliate for TikTok, you will receive a 25% commission on all sales generated through your unique affiliate link. Since the sales on TikTok do not link directly to your Chalk Site, those sales are not eligible for Chalk Couture Deferred Commission. Affiliate commissions are paid via TikTok only. (Learn more about the TikTok Affiliate Program here.)

Savvy Seller Bonuses, when earned, are paid on the PV generated through sales on the official TikTok Shop.

Should I send customers to my Chalk Site or TikTok Shop?

Your Designer Chalk Site remains the best place to build long-term customer relationships. It's the easiest way to introduce customers to the entire product offering, Perks Membership, Club Couture, and the Designer opportunity.

TikTok Shop is designed to help you reach new audiences through engaging content and earn affiliate commissions on qualifying sales. Use your official TikTok affiliate link when posting specifically to TikTok.

Many successful Designers will use both channels strategically—leveraging TikTok Shop to attract new customers and using their Chalk Site to continue building lasting relationships and growing their business. TikTok Shop should be viewed as an additional opportunity, not a replacement for your Designer business.

How can Designers boost their efforts on TikTok?

Designers are allowed to take advantage of advertising opportunities available to all TikTok Affiliates within the TikTok Affiliate Center. (Learn more about the TikTok Affiliate Program here.)

Additionally, TikTok often sponsors its own promotions on certain products/shops, and sends messages to customers with products in their cart offering a promotion for customers to complete their orders. These promotions are funded by TikTok and managed by them, not Chalk Couture.
